Amy Lowell MS, OTR/L , DIR-Expert
For over 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of working as an occupational therapist, dedicated to helping children and their families thrive. My passion lies in supporting kids with a wide range of neurodivergent profiles through a compassionate, individualized approach.
As an Expert-level DIRFloortime® clinician and a Training Leader with the International Council on Development and Learning (ICDL), I teach both professionals and caregivers about the transformative power of relationship-based, developmental interventions. My toolkit also includes certifications in the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) and the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT), along with advanced training in pediatric trauma & attachment support through ATTACh’s Level 3 occupational therapy program.
At the heart of my work is the belief that collaboration and connection between providers and families create the strongest foundation for growth.
Outside of my professional role, I’m also the proud mom of two energetic, wonderful kids—an experience that keeps me grounded (and frazzled!), gives me real-world perspective, and continually reminds me of the joys and challenges of parenting.

Key Principles in my approach:
Child-led: It’s important to engage children where they are, with what they like and show interest in. It’s our job to join their world to promote connection
Everyone is unique: Neurodiversity is natural. Each individual is unique in how they experience the world, think, communicate, engage, and connect.
Relationships matter: Caregivers are the most important people in a child’s life. That is why you will be an active part of our work together!
Behavior is communication: Behavior occurs for a reason. We need to find the cause to meet the need of the child. It’s important to understand, not punish or reward.
Therapy and learning should be fun: A child’s primary occupation is play, so we’ll start there!
Therapy is to help you do the important things: Balance in life is important (for kids and adults)! The goal of therapy is that you don't need therapy anymore! Doing fun, meaningful activities with family & friends in your community is important and always the goal. I focus on achievable, functional, short-term goals that make a difference in your everyday.
FAQs:
What is DIRFloortime? A therapeutic approach based on the Developmental, Individual-differences, and Relationship-based (DIR) model that promotes social, emotional, and intellectual development in children with developmental challenges.
Do you take insurance? No. I am not affiliated with private insurance companies or Medicaid. I accept private pay and can provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance or FSA/HSA.
How long do I need to come to therapy? Every child and family is different, but I believe that less is more. We'll commit together to a care plan that is meaningful and work hard to achieve important observable change. I believe that real-life change happens in the real world (community, home, at Grandma's house, or on vacation) and it's important to make time to do real life, not just therapy!
What is Occupational Therapy? Pediatric occupational therapy (OT) is a healthcare profession that helps children develop, recover, or maintain the skills needed for everyday activities (play, school, family fun, self-care, recreation)
Where do I find you? I'm in downtown Lyons in the Lyons Physical Therapy building at 435 High Street, Suite 202.
